Tommiea Jackson: Uncovering the Heart of Every Story.
From university boardrooms to family kitchens, I help people uncover the stories, history and ideas that bring people together and move important work forward.
I believe every person, every organization and every community has stories of significance that deserve to be discovered, preserved and shared. I also believe remarkable stories are all around us. Sometimes they simply need someone to recognize them.
Those beliefs have guided my life and my career for more than 20 years.
As a journalist, communications strategist and project leader, I've helped organizations strengthen their brands, build partnerships, solve complex problems and move important work forward. I've led university branding initiatives, secured grant funding, developed communication campaigns and worked alongside leaders, educators and communities to turn ideas into meaningful action. No matter the project, I've found that the best solutions begin with listening, asking thoughtful questions and recognizing what others may have overlooked.
That perspective didn't begin in a newsroom or a boardroom. It began in the homes, living rooms and kitchens of my family in Marks, Lambert, Vance, Clarksdale and Batesville, Mississippi. I grew up surrounded by people who could tell a story, make you laugh and help you see life from a different perspective.
My fascination with people and the stories of their lives has taken me from newspapers in Mississippi and Louisiana to leadership roles in higher education, nonprofit organizations and public humanities. It has led me to interview remarkable people, preserve family histories through genealogy and DNA, document milestone moments through photography and help organizations communicate with clarity and purpose.
Whether I'm developing a communication strategy, leading a project, photographing an event or helping someone uncover their family history, my goal is always the same: to understand what matters, solve the right problem and create something that will serve people long after the moment has passed. I want to leave people, organizations and communities better than I found them.
